Taxis

Once you arrive at Istanbul Airport, you have several options to reach your destination. Taxis wait at the official ranks outside Arrivals. Istanbul taxis are metered and come in tiers by colour: yellow (standard), turquoise (newer and more comfortable, a slightly higher tariff) and black (luxury). A metered ride to Taksim takes about 45–60 minutes and costs roughly ₺1,800 (around €38), tolls included; Sultanahmet is a little more. Bus

Alternatively, you can take a bus from Istanbul Airport to the city. HAVAİST airport coaches and municipal İETT buses run frequently throughout the day. HAVAİST fares depend on the route — roughly ₺250 to Aksaray (for Sultanahmet, then a short tram ride) and about ₺426 to Taksim; İETT city buses are far cheaper, a few lira per ride with an Istanbulkart. Metro

For a faster, cheaper option, the M11 metro line links Istanbul Airport directly with the city. Since January 2024 it runs all the way to Gayrettepe, where you can change to the M2 line for the city centre; the airport-to-Gayrettepe trip takes about 30 minutes. A single fare is around ₺38–42 with an Istanbulkart, making the metro the most economical way to and from the airport. (Approximate fares, June 2026.)

stanbul Airport – Istanbul city centre

There are several ways to get from Istanbul Airport to the city center, the Sultanahmet district. If you are interested in private transfers and car rentals, there are many companies offering these services at Istanbul Airport. Cabs are also available at the airport at any time of the day. Havaist buses leave for Sultanahmet every 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can use the new metro line to get to the center from the airport.
